 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
All of these trails had scattered trees down except for Middle Sister Trail. Piper Trail: If I recall my USFS training at this location correctly, this trail has nearly 100 water bars and all of them need cleaning; heavy erosion on the upper section is compromising rock steps and water bars; blazing is fairly non-existent. Nickerson Ledge Trail: Fairly eroded on the steeps due to the grade and lack of drainages. Carter Ledge Trail: Eroded in spots; some brushing needed above Carter Ledge. Middle Sister Trail: The corridor over First Sister is hard to follow in spots due to faded blazes and sparse cairns. |

I wouldn't bring a dog up Carter Ledge Trail. |

I wanted to revisit Piper Trail as I hadn't been on it in many years. I came down that way but ascended on the sporty Carter Ledge Trail, which I last visited in October.
Fortunately, aside from a few seeps, the scrambles and ledges were dry, including the "big" ledge. Still wouldn't want to go down it though.
The ridge walk was amazing as always with spectacular views. I know Chocorua gets the attention but the Sisters are pretty great too.
Despite the great weather, I only saw a few people all day. |
