	Trails:	Webster-Jackson Trail

	Date of Hike:	Tuesday, January 24, 2012

	Parking/Access Road Notes:	easy parking opposite the trailhead..virtually no snow from Franconia Notch all the way around to Twin Mountain though right down the the road in Crawford Notch

	Surface Conditions:	Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Blue, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Slush

	Recommended Equipment:	Snowshoes

	Water Crossing Notes:	both crossings on this route had water running over the snowbridges..lower one pretty much gone..upper one required walking on uncertain footbed in 6 inches of fast moving water..held with snowshoes today but doubtless will be punched out soon

	Trail Maintenance Notes:	one little blowdown just below summit...forgot my saw

	Dog-Related Notes:	saw Cinnella today who seemed to be doing fine

	Comments:	what a difference a day makes. spring snow with slush interspersed with sections of flow ice. snowshoes were the footware of the day..the icy areas were fairly soft today so they gripped fine. upper ramp to the summit still filled in with some ice. there were many places where you could hear water running underneath the snow...barebooters beware!! a few folks barebooted to bugle cliff sinking in slush with every step but God love them they kept going. nice to chat with cinnella and Per along the way. on the next cold snap barring any fresh snow I"d be packing my crampons for this route as there is a lot of ice at present on this trail. while driving around today it was worth noting that Gale River, Little River and Ammo were flowing over the ice and smashed it up a bit making upper crossings there somewhat suspect.
