The Crawford Path was well packed out up to the Webster Cliff Trail. There were a few minor ice patches that were not a problem. Many hikers used microspikes for this stretch.
The Webster Cliff Trail up to Mt Pierce had some ice and thin hard snow surface for which light traction provided good footing.
The Crawford Path north of the Webster Cliff Trail had not seen foot traffic since recent snowfall. There were spots with drifted snow with other stretches of wind scoured thin snow cover. After today, there is now a well beaten snowshoe track from Mt Pierce to Mt Eisenhower. Snowshoes are the footwear of choice in this section.
The Mount Eisenhower Loop Trail had some drifted snow down low with icier and thinner snow cover higher on the dome. The summit cone was covered in snow and rime ice. Thankfully there was little to no wind on this cold day making the conditions pleasant. I was able to use snowshoes for the entire round trip.
Saw many hikers including SilverFox, Sarah, Hannah. Two hikers were destined for Mt Monroe. The views were magnificent on this clear day. The evergreen boughs were caked with snow and ice. |
