Conditions: There was about 10 to 12" of new powder. We wore our snowshoes from car to car and broke out the trail behind one bare booter all the way to the summit (met up with him later as he was skiing the glades). We played leapfrog with a young lady humping her snowboard to the summit. The trail is broken, but not consolidated. Our tracks were already being blown back in on the open ridge area. The bare booter did a good job staying on the designated trail, once past the view and up to the summit, so we just followed his tracks. No blowdowns, but lots of snow on the trees up high. We saw about a dozen skiers tackling the glades on the way back down, so the glades are all tracked up. I'm surprised not to have seen more than one other hiker today.
The Kinsman ridge trail from the hut and High Cannon trail looked to be broken out today. Great day hiking with Dee Ressler. Very little wind, but cold temps and spitting snow all day. Views very limited. |
