| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts, Slush |
|

Snowshoes |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The bushwhacks we broke out require only one water crossing (fifth Rocky Branch crossing on Isolation Trail). This crossing is fully snowbridged, though I would recommend going one at a time, as it isn't too thick yet. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Some potentially disorienting blowdowns on Isolation Trail above water crossing 5. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Some patches of slush along the way may accelerate paw-snowballing issues. |

| Comments: |
Rocky Branch was broken out to where we started the Engine Hill bushwhack (shortly after the height of land past the Wilderness boundary). From there to the summit, we broke trail - generally about 6-8" of new snow, though deeper up high, and some drifting. Our Engine Hill bushwhack isn't perfect, but will dump you out just below water crossing 4 on the Isolation Trail. We took a different route on the way back, so where the packed bushwhack splits, the downhill option is more open. There are some open wet/slush spots on the Isolation Trail, before and just after crossing 5. On the Isolation Trail nearing the campsite, there is one spot where the packing splits - left is a dead end (go right). We also broke out the short bushwhack from the campsite to the Davis Path, saving a little distance and vertical. The steep Isolation Spur is completely snow covered, so ice isn't an issue right now. |
