Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The Kedron Flume water crossing was possible via submered rocks. The crossing on A-Z (not the relocation crossing but the next one up) which usually isn’t something that I think of as a crossing, was a legit crossIng today. I crossed upstream from where it looked like most people were fjording the raging brook, and was able to keep my shoes dry. The two crossings on Avalon were interesting. There are a (new) series of unstable boulders that make rock hopping the upper crossing possible, and there is a wonderful but very skinny log which makes tightrope walking the lower crossing possible. I brought trash bags but didn’t need them today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: I won’t help Pinocchio with information, but Joe Danna, my friend, I sent you email with photos!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw one today; it was postholing quite a lot (poor pupper!)
Bugs
Bugs: Ugh. No bites today but I saw them. Eeek!!!

Comments
Comments: I love, love, love bike spotting the traverse because riding my bike DOWN Crawford Notch is so much fun! Kedron Flume trail was dry (minimal mud, no snow or ice) until the Flume crossing and suddenly unstable monorail appeared. Fun. I donned rock spikes here and kept them on until I was below the upper crossing on the Avalon Trail. The Willey ladders were still partially buried in snow, and there were fresh moose tracks and sign on the Mt Tom spur (but no moose!) The trails were consistently inconsistent- about 75% of the time the world moved below your foot, and even though it was stable 25% of the time, you couldn’t predict it when it would be stable, so it was slow going. No way that snowshoes would have helped because of the open areas, whisper-thin monorail, and postholes and divets everywhere. I didn’t mind as the weather was perfect, the sun was shining, and there was killer undercast below George! I only saw three people and one dog - and two of the people were in shorts!! Great day!!
