Comments
Comments: Early 5:25 AM start, 12:30 finish. Lincoln Woods was pretty decent footing, as was the Black Pond Trail and bushwhack. Saw minimal snow/ice until finishing BP bushwhack. Bare booted pretty much up until the end of Brutus Bushwhack(used spikes a little the last half mile before Brutus). Lincoln Brook Trail went in and out of packed snow, but snow was firm. I put the snowshoes on to climb from the end of Brutus up to the summit(nice to get the weight off my back). Snow on the ridge is deeper and potentially prone to occasionally deep post holes, but I think spikes/crampons would work fine—just take it slow. Snow is 1.5-3 ft deep in places up top. Stream crossings were a piece of cake today—water is relatively low with most of the melting having occurred already. Some expected muddy and wet spots today, but really pretty take for shoulder season. Got sprinkled on a little while up on Owls Head itself, but nice weather overall today.
