Comments
Comments: 1 male, 1 female and two Australian Cattle Dogs and took us 5 hrs to hike. We tried hiking Tremont earlier in the year but turned back a quarter mile in as there was a lot of snow and we did not have our snowshoe. Glad to finally have been able to hike Tremont. Just like the 52 WAV book states, the first half is moderate while the second half is very steep. The first signs of snow started around a half miles and was a thin cover but gradually became deeper. Once you cross Stony Brook at 1.5 miles, the snow really begins to get deep. The trail is not very packed down and lots of post holes. On the way up I used my snowshoes, which made things easier. My wife used microspikes so she was slipping a lot more than I was (she isn't a fan of snowshoes). The last half mile or so leading up to the summit is very steep especially with the snow, so on the way down I swapped to microspikes. Overall it was a fun hike but just know there is still 2-3 feet of snow as you get higher in elevation.
