| Comments: |
One person used microspikes the entire way, other two switched to old stye MRS snow shoes (for the crampons and edge teeth) going up the steepest section of the trail up the east side of East Osceolo, on which there was some ice present on rock just below the snow surface.
Chimney up Osceola was solid ice--crampons and ice axe would be necessary, and possibly rope. But the bypass was microspikable both ways, with crampons perhaps desirable on the way down it. Expect though that the narrow bypass might soon be buried in sheet ice and snow, and no better than the chimney. |
