Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked in the very first lot on Stonehouse Pond Road (about 20’ from route 202) because it’s a dirt road that has deep gouges from people driving it during mud season. The lot that I parked in was some sort of very compacted gravel, which was very nice. It set the tone for the amazing trails in this park!

Comments
Comments: These are extraordinarily well maintained trails. The signage is the best that I have seen in NH (beautiful wood signs, with routered and painted letters, are present at every junction AND properly oriented so there is absolutely no guesswork). There are color coded small SELT medallions marking the trail on the SELT property and the private property still has the blue flagging tape mentioned in the 5th edition of thr SNH Trail Guide.
I am glad that this was not my first-ever hike in NH because everything else would be a disappointment after the fabulous work that has been done here!

I hiked a loop that was basically counterclockwise, with a side trip to check out Ledges Loop. The overlook really is stunning. I drove south, to this park, hoping to hike on bare ground, but found 2-4” of slippery slush. It made it a slow trek and I hiked less mileage than planned. I brought beater rock spikes but it was so warm that I didn’t bother with them as I was pretty sure that they would snowball. I am 100% sure that I will visit this beautiful park again! (Note: I was uncomfortable writing the name of the peak in this post because it sounds like a swear word; if you know me you know that I don’t like swearing. There was nothing to swear about on this peak - it arrived gently on a mild ascent on a slush covered private road or trail.). I saw no one today, but amused myself by checking out lots of animal tracks!
