Comments
Comments: A short we up Ammo we met a group of about 8 hikers who had been breaking trail. We tried to return the favor a bit, but they definitely did the lion's share. So, thanks for that. At this point ammo is very well consolidated, but steep enough that I wouldn't try it in bare boots. We put on snowshoes nearly at the trailhead, and kept them on the entire hike.

The lake hut was in the clouds under heavy winds when we arrived. We headed up Monroe, which was mainly a challenge due to the extreme cold and strong winds. Just as we reached the summit all the clouds from Monroe to Washington lifted, giving some great views for the day. We felt bad for the groups that turned back just minutes before the day finally cleared up.

Conditions above treeline made for hard, driven snow without much drift on the trails. We kept the snowshoes on for Monroe, but crampons would have been fine. Microspikes would have been okay if the wind hadn't been so strong.
