Comments
Comments: I used spikes till about halfway up Gorge Brook and then switched to snowshoes. They became increasingly more necessary as the ascent went on. The summit was more wind-thin in depth, but as soon as there was any tree cover, snowshoes were a must and there was no reason to switch out up top. Mine were the only tracks laid for the .15 mile South Peak Spur. Carriage Rd Trail was mixed bag with some postholing, some snowshoe track, some ski. It became softer and softer as the descent and day moved forward. Snapper… very soft with only a previous postholer and snowshoer evident. I was often postholing in the snowshoes. It’s definitely the trail less traveled right now. Gorgeous snowshoeing day despite the lack of views at the top. I’ll be back.
