Comments
Comments: Lincoln Woods has a layer of ice that was pretty slick when I started. I wound up putting on spikes right after the bridge. The ice does disappear in a few places along the trail but probably 80% is ice. I bare-booted on the way back when things were softer but spikes might have been faster. The first two miles of Bondcliff are a mess of soft snow and running water/exposed rocks. I wore snowshoes here on the way up and bare-booted down. Starting at ~2500 feet the snow cover becomes more consistent but it's still very soft/springy snow.

The trail across the Bonds was snow-covered and here the snow got fairly powdery like true winter snow. I wore snowshoes all the way to West Bond and back.

I only saw maybe 6 hikers who came out via Lincoln Woods but there were another ~14 who came across via the traverse. They did a great job (or as good a job as you can do with the soft snow) of tramping down the trail with snowshoes. They made my trip down much easier than the trip up. I think you'll still want snowshoes because the snow is very soft but the trail is in better shape after today thanks to the large group.
