Sorry this is late. Spectacular, sunny day with bluebird skies & almost no wind. We started in spikes but switched to snowshoes to go up the Cog & over Washington until Lake in the Clouds. It was 25* in the morning so snow was packed & hard & a joy to traverse. It was bony with intermitent sections of bare ground, icy patches & packed snow with a slushy mix on top (as the day warmed up) from LITC to Pierce. Spikes were on & off. Some mash potato snow between Ike & Pierce. The descent from Pierce was hard packed with a light layer of slush on top. The real issue on the descent was the number of post hikes on both sides of the track; some were knee+ deep! There’s no relaxing on the descent bc you had to watch your step every step of the way. Thanks to Harriet & David for joining me on this amazing hike! Fun to run into Eric on his way down from his 159th official hike of Washington.     |
