Road wasn't plowed, added about a mile to trail head. Parked where road splits. Only car. Ice over unpacked snow from the start - really slow going, even with snowshoes. Would be hell w/o them. Sinking in good with every step. Got about 3 miles in and turned around. Only 1000 feet of gain but felt like 3000 with crappy snow. Way back wasn't any easier, despite the track made. Would need a team of people to get this trail feeling good. Encountered several fresh bear prints (who seemed to be postholing too) along stream. Looks like its been a few snow events since anyone has been out here, faint boot prints here and there. Shame, its a pretty trail along water, and would've liked to continue to at least Unknown Pond, but ankles were starting to feel it. |
