| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Gale River Road closed. Parking lot was icy -- needed microspikes as soon as we got out of the car. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Black, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Water crossings very tricky but doable with extreme care. The ice is NOT frozen all the way through, even though sometimes it looks as though it is. For the first crossing, we bushwhacked upstream about 50-70 yards. For second major crossing, we walked on top of the ice on a fallen log. Sketchy, but we managed to keep our feet dry. |

| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One blow-down near start of Garfield Trail. Easy to step over. |

| Comments: |
Dusting of snow at the bottom, packed snow in the middle, and fluffy, powdery snow for the higher mile. One could have made an argument for snowshoes near the top, but the girls and I tracked the path out well enough with our microspikes, and Pepper and Me's group descended after us, so by now the trail should be fairly packed and firm from the use of multiple feet.
Was very nice to see Pepper and Me's group in the parking lot before we started. Nice to read that they completed the traverse. |
