Snowshoes up via Dicey's Mill. Trail was well packed, we (group of 10) wore snowshoes up to summit. Encountered a handful of people in spikes (one in crampons?) who insisted they were not postholing at all. Broke out view spur with snowshoes and switched to spikes (90%) and bare boots (10%) for descent. As a result somewhat tore up the small segment of Walden Trail between the summit spur and view spur which was not yet as packed as Dicey's Mill. On our way up, Walden Trail from Dicey's Mill junction to summit was not broken out yet but had been broken by 1-2 snowshoers by the time we descended. Descended via Dicey's Mill. Our group was in spikes for descent - some post-holing, mostly at edges of trail. Continued to encounter other occasional hikers in spikes. Thanks to the welcoming locals who said hello and to the doggo-owners who brought their beautiful puppers out today. |
