Comments
Comments: Route: We started at the Valley Way trailhead, got onto Sylvan Way, and then went from there onto the Howker Ridge Trail. We took that and then Osgood Trail to the summit, and we descended Madison via Valley Way.

Conditions: Below 2500' altitude, there is a layer of breakable crust on top of 1-3" of powder. Above that, it's all powder (seems that there wasn't rain above that altitude yesterday). We broke trail on Sylvan Way and Howker Ridge Trail; with 25" snowshoes, we were still sinking 6"-2' deep. Coming down Valley Way, there's still deep unconsolidated powder as well as drifts above 3000' altitude. We kept the snowshoes on from trailhead to trailhead.

Recommended equipment: snowshoes are a must!
