Comments
Comments: Warm weather today meant that the snow was going to be mushy and it was. Copper and I had a late start (10:15am arrival at the trailhead), we were the only car at Willey House. The snow was about 4-6 inches down low but around 12 inches on the ridge. It was very soft and wet but no balling issues all day. The trails were in excellent conditions and the Willey Range trail saw more action and was nicely packed. The softness made coming down interesting as we were sliding considerably in the steepest sections. Fortunately, the ladders were still usable but this will not last and they will be covered in ice soon. We met only two hikers on the way up and one on the way down (we do like the colder season and weekday for that). This was and quick out and back because of the late start. We did not see any gray Jay at the lookout.
