Great day on the trails today. Cold, clear and the winds never materialized. Polecat trail wasn't open for skiing but snow making was going full bore. Made for great descent in 2 inches of new snow on the base. Ridge trail was a little rough with frozen footprints of those who were there after the 6" snow fall earlier this week. On top was another 1-2" of powder. Another 6 inches and it will be great. There are a number of ice flows along the ridge that required care but we all used microspikes and they sufficed.
Of note is that as we neared the top of Polecat, we were approached by 2 ski patrol who advised we shouldn't be up there without a pass. We advised that in the parking lot and in the lodge, multiple workers wished us a good hike and never mentioned the need for a pass. Furthermore, we saw no signs indicating such was needed nor any written materials suggesting such. He advised we could go on but this was a warning for future use of the Polecat trail as this was their policy. He was polite about it, as were we, but this should be considered when heading up Polecat.
Thanks Scott and Cory for a great day! |
