Comments
Comments: Warmer start than we were expecting, though the winds were cold until we got in the woods. Wet in the usual spots down low then crusty snow/ice. No real issue with ice, never needed spikes. Snow levels were 2-4 inches until above the big ledges. The climbs had some ice but we really no problem. Once at the false summit the depths increased to 6-8 inches. Snowshoes May have been nice thru this stretch but dangerous on the down climbs. Only a couple of tracks from Thursday, so it was a little slow. Careful as the rocks are ice covered, spikes would be no help IMO. Winds really blasted us for the last mile + until intersection. Colder more snow on this end of the Loop. Usual tough climb up to Pass but less ice until the really steep spots. Made the summit & watch the temps drop. Coldest of the day here. Had a beer & shot to toast my father on what would had been his 81st! Carried some ashes for his 1st 2 4Ks. We made good time to bottom, just watch out for the ankle twisting spots. Never used spikes but had them.
