ice and hard crusty snow mixed with bare ground down low. snow coverage and frozen slush increased with elevation. some patches and flows of ice all easily managed. along the ridge between summits the trail is nicely packed out and a little softer underfoot.
we wore microspikes the whole hike. no need for snowshoes until the next storm.
a cold start this morning. trails conditions were fast and we made good time as it was pretty chilly and we had another hiked planned for the afternoon. stunning views to the presidentials with blowing snow drifting over the peaks from the waumbek outlook. thanks cynthia. |
