Comments
Comments: on the road you basically had two choices which were to walk in hard packed truck tracks or in a few inches of fresh powder. looks like some sort of work, presumably snowmobile related, is being done out there somewhere as the tracks continued beyond signal ridge trail where we headed.

the trail had a few inches of new snow with fresh boot tracks. pretty rocky down low, but filled in better with elevation. a couple icy spots along the river bank that will require care once things firm up again. snow was soft and a bit sticky down low in the afternoon.

once up on the slab of the ridge there was nice coverage for snowshoes with a few icy bits hidden under the snow. 6 or more inches higher up all packed out pretty well now. some drifting in the open ridge section. the tower was pretty much blown clear of snow and ice.

a couple of us wore snowshoes the whole hike. microspikes were also used down low on the way out.

nice day for a carrigain hike. overcast views, but pretty good long range visibility. pretty windy up high on the ridge and summit, but warm enough that it was really not an issue. thanks to cynthia, sarah and hannah for a great day.
