Perhaps an inch or so of fresh snow when I arrived. Started snowing hard during the climb and continued all day. Perhaps 3 or 4 new inches on the car when we finished. Pretty boney on the way into the pond but not much ice.
Snow much deeper on Mt Osceola Trail. Snowshoes would have been perfect for the ascent. The steepest sections had some hidden ice but a "reroute" has formed to the left of the trail.
Some drifting snow in the Col between peaks. Used the chimney by-pass and it wasn't too icy. I had to be careful in microspikes on the descent. Switched to mini crampons descending East peak and they were perfect. Others with MSR snowshoes slipped a bit on icy spots.
Enjoyed the company of 46ers Kay and Arnie very much. Special congrats to Becca for her first snowshoe-hike ever! |
