Comments
Comments: I usually do not use any traction any time of the year, other than Evo snowshoes if snow depth warrants, but sometimes carry Microspikes in the winter; glad that I had the spikes for use on a short section below Lakes hut. Otherwise, entire route bare bootable, with rocks sticking out from a few inches of hard packed snow and/or soft white ice. Hiking does not get any easier, with the exception of some boiler plate ice bulges on the upper Ammy. Light breeze above treeline brought out my overparka, but overall super day, with fabulous alpen glow on the summits as the sun set from my vantage point near the bottom of Jewell. Always love the exposure on the balcony along the upper Great Gulf Trail, especially with the security of post holes in drifted snow.
