 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
We parked on the shoulder of Rt. 2, right at Lowe's Path Trailhead. |
 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Significant |
 | Recommended Equipment: |
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Rock hopping, not difficult. |
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The sign at the intersection of Lowe's Path and the Link is slightly misaligned - it almost looks as if it is saying that the trail to the north is the one going back to Lowe's Store, but that trail is actually the Link heading towards Appalachia.
On King Ravine Trail, just above Pentadoi I think, there is a horizontal blowdown about 3-4 ft. off the ground - whether you go over or under it will depend on how tall you are. |
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
The Subway is not suitable for dogs - too many deep crevices for a dog to fall into. |
 | Bugs: |
Some mosquitoes and flies, especially near streams, but they were not biting much. I think I was bitten only once or twice the whole day. |
 | Lost and Found: |
We found Warby Parker sunglasses along the trail. We left them at Lowe's Path Trailhead on Rt. 2, on the trailhead sign. |

 | Comments: |
There is unavoidable shallow standing water/mud where Lowe's Path crosses the clearing parallel to Presidential Rail Trail. In fact, there is mud in many places along the first 1.8 miles of Lowe's Path (after which we turned onto King Ravine Trail), but most of the mud can be avoided by rock hopping.
Great Gully Trail was overgrown with ferns and other greenery, but it was not hard to follow the trail. I was temporarily confused at one point where it looked as if the trail was about to go vertically up a waterfall completely covered in moss, but no, the trail makes a left turn. We saw ice hidden in one sheltered place near the bottom of this trail. The Great Gully Trail has water running down the trail in a few places, but it's not bad - one can walk so as to avoid getting water in one's boots.
The rocks above treeline were dry. |
