 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked in the public spots along Rt. 103 by the lake and walked to the start of Newbury Trail. Lake View Rd. has abundant no parking signs at the trailhead. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Overall everything was in good shape. Newbury has a few older blowdowns and there's some erosion on the steeper pitches. The blazes on the old Lake Solitude Trail have been redone fairly recently so someone is looking after it ... |

More field work plus some personal exploration at Sunapee today.
Overall, trail conditions were fairly dry but there is still some water and mud around. Newbury in particular has some impressive mud pits. Some are drying out while others are still boot-sucking.
The views from Eagle's Nest and the outlooks along Newbury are all pretty much grown in now. Eagle's Nest less so but it's still restricted. The best views of course are from White Ledges. The vista was spectacular today without the haze.
On the way up I did a bushwhack up to South Peak. While the distance is short there's a lot of hobblebush to push through. The high point was difficult to discern as the top is very flat and the USGS topo doesn't offer enough detail. I wandered around up there for a bit but didn't find any recognition.
A quiet day on the mountain. I only saw a few people all afternoon. |
