Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Lost track of how many brooks I crossed and I'm not sure which was the regular (not rain caused) water crossing. But all were rock hops. Maybe on one my shoe got wet. But who knows because my shoe was already wet from the puddles on the trail.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Some blow downs here and there. I went under. I went over. Didn't slow me down.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I saw two dogs. They looked focused and could not be bothered with my hello.
Bugs
Bugs: Not sure why but there were no bugs! Amazing!

Comments
Comments: This was my first time doing the Hancocks and I was mostly concerned (aka pumped up) for the mileage, which came out to 9 miles. I appreciated the easy two mile warm up portion of the trail and the next mile wasn't so bad either. Beautiful forest and river. I went clockwise on the loop trail. The last half mile up to the north summit was steep uphill rocks. Thanks to the friendly hiker who gave me his extra sandwich on the summit. Then it was over to South Hancock and back down again. I don't think the trail conditions list sums up the situation out there today, which followed heavy rains yesterday. I thought this trail might handle rain well but I guess not because this was the absolute wettest and muddiest trail I've ever personally experienced. I suppose it isn't usually like it was today but that was something to see, all those puddles, the water running right down the trail for long stretches, and the unavoidable deep mud.
