Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: First and second crossing required leaps of faith. I sent them in my boots and Crystal opted to put on sandals and wade them.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Rocky Branch: not bad to the height of land! Water bars were all working, no blowdowns and well brushed. After the height of land the trail DESPERATELY needs brushing. People won’t complain about this trail as much if it’s just brushed out through the wet section. Iso Trail notes below.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Lucy did great! She alerted us to a huge bear at dusk on our way out.
Bugs
Bugs: Not too bad.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Trails were remarkably free of litter! The only thing we found was a “to the moon” vape pen that we packed out.

Comments
Comments: 10 year anniversary of adopting Isolation Trail! Rather than cancel yet another trail maintenance trip, we decided to work Isolation Trail East as a day trip. We will be back for West later this summer. We were glad to see our trail in excellent shape and water bars doing exactly what they are supposed to do. We gave them a tune up, cleared a major blow down are plus a few other minor blow downs, brushed and mitigated the ever encroaching hobble bush. We also drained a few sections of standing water on the trail by unclogging runoffs. This is a wet and muddy approach to Isolation though, but I’m proud of the improvements we’ve made over the last decade.

We ran into a huge curious bear on the steep section of Rocky Branch at dusk. One blow of the whistle and it noped out super fast. I love seeing them but it’s always unnerving in the moment.

We saw a decent amount of people out. Everyone was friendly but it was a very weird vibe. I think everyone is sick of the rain, and this is not the trail to do if you are sick of wet conditions.
