Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All crossings of the Rattle River were rock hop-able. Not at the trail, but up or downstream a bit. Kept my feel dry, but not for long....you're gonna get wet higher up.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Couple blowdowns on Rattle River & Kenduskeag. One annoying blowdown right at eye level between Moriah and the Imp Campsite.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: saw some dogs.

Comments
Comments: Parked at the Imp North trailhead and rode my bike to Rattle River, in order to get this section of the AT off my to-do list. About an 8 mile bike ride that took about half an hour. Beautiful day at the start, but the clouds rolled shortly before reaching the Kenduskeag trail. Passed 4 or 5 NOBO thru hikers on the Rattle River trail. Originally planned to out and back it to Shelburne Moriah as well, but seeing that it would be totally boxed in, I decided to save that for a nicer day. This proved to be a good choice as I underestimated the length and difficulty of this hike. Lots of standing & running water all over the place on these trails. Passing showers didn't help. Moriah was mostly boxed in, but the skies opened up at bit on my way down the Moriah ledges, which were stunning. Ascent to North Carter was non-stop scramble for 1/4 mile. Fun section. Saw a group of 3 at the summit on their way to the Imp Site for the night. After chatting they realized they read my reports from a few weeks ago. This site is a small world! If you guys read this, hope you had a good night at the Imp! North Carter trail is a complete stream. So much wetter than when I just did this trail 3 weeks ago. First time on the northern half of the Imp Trail, vs. having done the south half twice. It may be slightly more challenging, but man what a nicer trail. Much, much drier, beautiful tread towards the bottom, and the view from Imp Face is breathtaking. The Presidentials were in the clouds, but I could see that being the best view of them from anywhere on a clear day. My watch had this at over 15 miles and just under 5000' of ascent. Tough!
