I arrived at the Basin to find that the pond was pretty flooded from all of the rain we've gotten lately. Sure enough, within a tenth or two of a mile down the Basin trail, it was engulfed by the pond's floodplain. I had to bushwhack around the pond area and re-join the trail beyond the pond. Other than that detour, and the persistent wet/mud of this summer, the trails were in really good shape--easy to follow and minimal blowdowns. Great views from the ledge on Basin near Rim Junction (I could see the pond flooding from up there!) Quiet day with only 2 others on trail. |
