Comments
Comments: Great trekking in the Cockermouth Forest as always - Romeey-Remick Road was essentially two tire tracks for a trail, the road is still very much in use as we saw a few departing. Access to the road is through a locked gate, so possibly SPNHF folks or trail maintenance. The roadway is minimally grassy, not too tall on this stretch - much higher along sections of the High Pasture Loop toward the north.

Overall the coarse, sandy and rocky footing of the Old North Groton Road was draining well, two small waterways were easily stepped over, another brook was bridged (wood was super slick when wet). Several soggy patches nearing the Bald Knob Trail, a few herd paths had formed around longstanding puddles mid-trail. Bald Knob Trail was beautiful, well drained, however the bare ledgy rock may be slick, we had minimal issues as it wasn't actively raining, just in a low fog. Didn't seem treacherously slick though, with La Sportiva trail runners, grip was all groovy.

Bit of standing water between peaks which we crossed atop a log, the old tree still had its bark, so traction was a minimal issue. Trail was hardly soggy two days ago, maybe a bit more after last night/this mornings rain but these trails seem to drain well, no parts were truly muddy or gross. Hopefully they drain quickly before any traffic gets out onto the steep slopes and lovely trails.

Ferns were slightly overtaking the trail descending Mt Crosby.. nearing the High Pasture Trail, a little extra focus to spot the footing was all that was needed. Nothing too slick or sloppy, just a dense understory.
