Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossed several brooks with no problem, though the water is high for July. There was a ton of standing water and muck in the trail in some spots, so it was difficult to keep boots dry. Hard to see where the solid ground is on the trail in much of the logged areas because the vegetation is growing up in the trail with a vengeance.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trail is lightly used and has a narrow corridor (only about a foot wide) for most of its length. You must pay attention to blazes and trail markers between 0.6-1.5mi, but luckily there are many. Raspberries and other rank growth are becoming a problem in the logged areas. The trail around Shingle Pond is flooded out in spots. The route up the ledges at the top is not obvious in a few places.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs would love this trail, though beware - there are many ticks on the fire road and in the logged areas below 1.5mi.
Bugs
Bugs: SO MANY MOSQUITOES! They were bothersome for the whole trip, but around Shingle Pond, they were swarming as badly as I have ever seen, anywhere.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nada.

Comments
Comments: Gorgeous solitude on the trail up the back side of Kearsarge North. Great to be on a trail with so much duff underfoot. Did not see a soul except, at the end, a mountain biker on the fire road, right near the parking lot. Conditions were extremely wet from the past month of unrelenting rain. Mosquito pressure was as high as I have ever seen in the Whites. Saw 3 very large beaver lodges at Shingle Pond, which has a nice view. The tower is missing glass in one of the windows. Magnificent swirling clouds at the summit.
