 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Al Merrill up to the cabin spur had some failing water bars that were handling water flowing out of the woods causing water to run down the trail and erode in some cases. I surprisingly was able to open many of them enough to redirect the water for now with my poles and hands. In a few cases the snow bridges that had been pulled for summer had been left in the outflow area and were part of the block. The cabin spur had a couple of failing waterbars. Above the cabin the side ditches are getting clogged by branches, and in a few cases they are now causing water to flow down the old road/trail and erode. I had less success breaking these open enough to let the water flow, but got a few. A work crew or bucket would be needed to open these up the whole length. On the descending north section the Al Merrill trail changes to more like a typical rougher path. There is one large multi stem blocking blowdown which is axe worthy although a large saw could get them. There aren't as many waterbars, some working, and some now working but not fully. Asquam Ridge back to the lodge had lots of water in the trail and is rough in places from past erosion, but lots of waterbars as well. |
