Parking at Castle in the Clouds hiker lot not a problem, not many cars today. |

|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lots of washout on Cold Spring Road, broken up pavement, some closed trails down low. Overland flow of runoff, not sure if some culverts were clogged, or just too much rain for them to clear. Faraway Mtn Connector was a stream on our return, water flowing down trail. Oak Ridge Connector had some small mud pits and running water, generally avoidable. All other trails in good shape. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Ample water right now, trails great for dogs. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Luckily, no. They apparently don't like to get rained on. |

A fun rainy day hike. Castle in the Clouds has good trails for wet days. Zero views on Shaw, just mist and low clouds, but it was more about getting out than about the views today.
Lots of water flowing off the Ossipees right now, some areas of erosion and trail closures due to storm damage. Check trail conditions before planning routes here for time time being. With another inch or two of rain today, more damage may occur.
Saw some very fresh and giant moose tracks coming down High Ridge from Shaw, expected to walk up on it, but nope.
Thanks to Amy, Sarah and Chris for being game for a rainy day adventure. |
