 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked at 19 Mile Brook trailhead lot off NH 16 just outside of Gorham. This large, dirt surfaced lot can hold many cars with road side parking also available on busy days. Kiosk. No privy. Lot is well plowed in winter. |

 | Water Crossing Notes: |
All major water crossings are, thankfully, bridged. The water is up to the level of the log bridges that are just past the junction with the Carter Dome trail. It is not flowing over the bridges. |

My dog did fine on all trails, though I think he was looking for snow on the ski trails… |

Route:
19 Mile Brook (19MB) > Wildcat Ridge Trail > ski trails > road walk on NH 16.
19 MB: popular, well graded and maintained route to the Carter Notch. Well blazed in blue. The brook was absolutely raging today, but did not crest its borders. Wet, muddy trail. To be expected in active rain. See water crossing notes above. I had no water crossing issues today. Active running water on trail in several parts. Sometimes avoidable, mostly not. Just go ahead and get the feet wet. It’s not like they’d stay dry on a day like today anyway.
Wildcat Ridge: this is the AT and is blazed in standard white blazes. Footbed apparent. Lots of standing water and running water on trail. Mud not too bad, surprisingly. 3 Thru hikers and two lovely ladies met in this trail. At least I’m not the only crazy one!! :) Honestly, this was my 11th time over these peaks. I legit was trudging over the ridge to “just get it done” for June and not paying attention to the trail.
Ski trails: this is where I began having fun! Consult the Wildcat Ski Resort webpage for the designated hiking route here:

My dog and I had the best time grass skiing, sloshing through rivulets, and prancing through brush in the rain on the ski trails. There are some really eroded sections.
Road walk: of note, there are a multitude of broken glass bottles along the roadside. I spent most of my time curtailing my dog away from traffic and the shards of glass. One insulin needle noted as well… it had been thankfully recapped (but why not engage the safety portion of the needle?). Anyway. If I didn’t have the dog I would have parked my bicycle at the resort and biked the 2-3 miles back to 19MB. |
