Very early start, hoping to catch the sunset from the summit. Unfortunately, the NOAA hourly forecast didn't pan out, so I got to see fog and snow flurries.
Snowmaking and grooming activities in progress on the lower ski trails closest to the Mt. Tecumseh Trail, so it's probably a good idea to avoid them for now. I used part of the old trail to get around it.
Sticky snow in the lower elevations. Starting at the ski vista on the Mt. Tecumseh Trail, there was a dusting of new snow, covering up black and blue ice that had formed in the footbed (from packed snow) in recent thaw/freeze cycles. Though there are plenty of rocks sticking up and very little snow, the spikes were needed in a few places, especially up on the ridge. Using a similar route to the peak on Sunday, I didn't use Microspikes. Today, I used them for nearly the entire hike.
Still no more than 2" of snow in the higher elevations. |
