This trail hasn't had a trail report posted in awhile and I was curious as to the viability of the Iso Express so figured I'd give it a shot. Having attempted the Engine Hill bushwhack in the spring previously and getting bogged down in the mud, I skipped that.
So,the Rocky Branch was rocky, muddy, and waterlogged. Nothing unusual there. I felt the water was too high for the first water crossing so bushwhacked along the river bank till the trail returned to the Eastern side. The crossing at the Iso Express was easy. That was all that was easy. I tried my best to follow the set winter path using my GPS but there was insufficient evidence to follow exactly,so I followed it generally and pushed through all kinds of bramble. My conclusion is that it probably took just a long as if I had just used the approved trails so I did on the way back.
Overall, I have to say I despise these trails. They are difficult to maintain and so mostly aren't. The good news is I have gridded Isolation out and so will never, ever use this route again in any season the bushwhacks are not tracked out. |
