| Comments: |
The trails were snowless at lower elevations. Snow became progressively deeper at higher elevations but never very deep even on Franconia Ridge. Where there was snow on the trail it was heavily packed down by foot traffic. Snowshoes are useless on the trails at this time as there are many rocks rising above the snow. Microspikes can be helpful in some places although I easily ascended to Mt Liberty in bare boots. Used traction on descent to provide more surefootedness. The staircases were exposed with only a half inch of hard packed snow on the steps so it was easy to ascend and descend in the steep section of the Osseo Trail.
The views were magnificent as the air was clear. Met Georg and many other hikers today. |
