I enjoyed this one! I took a friend from Oregon who has never hiked in the Whites before, and this was definitely a great place to start. Not too steep or challenging and easy mileage for two peaks. The presidentials were mostly socked in, so the views from both peaks were not great. At one point the clouds cleared and we had some views from the blowndown past the Waumbek summit. I'd definitely recommend this hike for beginners or anyone looking to get their hiking legs back.
Conditions were great, some muddy patches from the rain on Wednesday but nothing unmanageable. No ice or monorail left, so no traction needed. The lot was easy to find and it was nice to have a gas station/general store right by the trailhead. The lot is pretty small, so definitely one you'll want to arrive early to hike, especially if you're picking a busy weekend. |
