Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: the water crossing on greeley ponds trail was not a problem today.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: removed a number of blowdowns along the route. the one large blowdown on the ridge between the peaks (east peak side of col) remains as it was a bit more than i wanted to tackle with a folding saw. will take a larger saw or axe to remove. a short beaten path is developing around it as it has been there a while.

Comments
Comments: the whole route was snow free. patches of ice on greeley ponds trail along with semi frozen mud all avoidable. much of the same though very little ice and drier trail down low on osceola trail. some flow ice in the expected spots where the trail steepens next to the old slide. currently these couple spots can be gotten around with little issue. the slide crossing had a couple ice flows, one on each edge, and can currently be navigated with care. though the center of the slide looks to be ice flow free watch out for black ice.

once on the ridge there are sporadic patches of ice over east to the col then more patches with a couple flows on the steeps heading up osceola all not a problem to navigate around. the chimney had ice in it, but the bypass was clear and mostly dry. carried microspikes, but did not use them. if the sections of ice, particularly on the slide crossing, continue to expand without good snow cover something more aggressive than light traction may be needed to safely navigate them.

great osceola hike. nicer day than i was expecting with good views and spots of sun along the way. nice and cool up on the ridge. neat to hear the ice falling from the various cliffs around the notch on the way down. something came of kancamagus i wouldn't have wanted to be anywhere near based on the sound. good to be out.
