The most enjoyable Cannon to date, but I’ve also been mentally drained by spring recently, so take this recommendation with that considered. Barebooted until ~0.6 miles, then micros on for a short time to navigate the icy section on the slabs. Patches of exposed rock helped with traction to avoid ice. I used Hillsounds but if one is more cautious, Crampons could be used. Minimal running water across the major drainage. Spikes back on around mile 1-1.5 for the mostly stable, but softening monorail with hardly any postholing. The saddle had mud in the usual spot, but was barely notable. No snow or ice once above treeline until the lookout section where the monorail returned, again mostly stable. I’d recommend grabbing Cannon now if you need it for spring etc! |
