 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty today at the Reed Road lot. There's a new private residence across from the parking that wasn't there last time. SPNHF has also put up a few new signs directing hikers up to the "trailhead". |

 | Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
|
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
No issues. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
All of these paths were in good shape except Reed Road Trail. It's slowly succumbing to erosion due to a lack of water bars. |

 | Bugs: |
Yup. A bazillion black flies made it a head net day. I also picked up ten ticks on the hike. Yuk. |

Today's Plan A was a loop over Belknap Mtn., but I didn't beat the early birds to the Wood Rd. parking. So Plan B was a seven-summit loop through the central part of the range.
The entire loop was surprisingly dry given the recent monsoon. Minor muddy spots here and there. The seasonal streams in the valley between Anna and Mack are flowing well so enjoy them while you can.
It had been a while since I'd been on Dave Roberts Quarry Trail. It's still my favorite trail in the range but dang it's also a butt-kicker. Steep, steep, steep ups and downs between peaks. But that's part of the charm. Along the way, I also bushwhacked out to the tri-town monument where the towns of Alton, Gilford, and Gilmanton meet. This has been on my to-do list for a while and it was cool to finally find it.
Nice to meet Marie and friends out there! |
