Comments
Comments: Stellar day to be up high - sunshine, light wind - beautiful day out there! Spikes for the win today, no snowshoes needed. Barebooted to about 2800' - trail to that point had only intermittent patches of ice / monorail which was easily walked around. Above 2800', trail was snow covered. Monorail was firm in the AM and no postholing unless you went off to the side. Trail was getting softer and a little slushy on the way back down in the afternoon, but still no postholing unless you went off the monorail. Pierce to Eisenhower was slushy and wet - monorail where there was some - was very narrow. Snow on the ledges and up summit cone was melting quickly. Spikes worked fine.
