Comments
Comments: My plan was to hike up to tree line and then down on such a nice day. The short section of Tuckerman’s was just fine, icy at the Cascade lookout (but WOW!! Falls looked incredible!). Boott Spur up to the ladder was dry and clear of any ice/snow. After the ladder there was snow, ice, mud, wet rocks, clear sections etc…basically everything. Nice and firm in the earlier part of the day and predictably softer on the way back. After the “outlook sign” the amount of snow was more considerable and much more continuous. In spots it had drifted in leaving feet of snow still to melt. I barebooted up and then wore Hillsounds down for some extra traction - up to this point snowshoes would have been wonky up and down -again trail was firm enough so postholing wasn’t a problem…yet…great to get up a bit for some nice views. It was totally spectacular out!
