Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Liberty Sping crossing was easily rock hopped. The crossings on Flume Slide were generally easily rock hopped. The first one and the fourth one we went downstream a little bit for a better crossing spot.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There has been some ice damage in the last two days. Several fir trees are down on the short section heading up to the summit of Flume from the Osseo Trail junction and again as you descend off of Liberty towards Liberty Spring. Two ladies who came over from Little Haystack said that stretch was absolutely filled with blowdowns and they dreamed of having a chainsaw…
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs: Mosquitoes on the bike path, flies on the summit of Liberty (non-biting), a few spiders in the snow.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found:
Comments: Water crossings were my biggest concern, but they were not a problem. We put on rock spikes at around 2750’ on Flume Slide Trail and then removed them around 3000’. The slide had large parts that were snow/ice free (but were very wet), so we barebooted for much of it. Eventually, we put them back on and kept them on until right before the summit of Flume. Back on for the trip to Liberty and then down Liberty Springs until around 3200’. We carried snowshoes and full crampons, but neither were necessary. If the ridge softens up, you might very well need snowshoes as there is still pretty deep snow up there.
