Mixed messy bag today. Road and first 1.5 miles of trail bare bootable. Pick your poison from there to East Peak and back. Snow is soft and slushy on top so the little 1/2” spikes on light traction devices don’t really give good purchase. Snowshoes provide better grip and flotation but then,,,,, have fun avoiding DEEP postholes. There is 3 to 4 feet of snow at elevation. The so-called monorail is just beginning to form. Before Osceola on the lesser travelled trail it is extremely unstable and only about 3” high and postholed to death. It is slightly more stable though only about 4” high between the peaks. Did I mention the postholes?! |
