Comments
Comments: The ski trails may look fairly melted out from the base lodge, but there is still a lot of snow on the periphery trails, as well as the upper mountain. I was able to get up and down the ski trails via different routes completely on snow (folks were out skiing this evening as well). Snowshoes were ideal for what I was doing, but skis would have been good too (though there has been a lot of tracked snowcat traffic).

An inch or so of snow fell on top of existing snow with the recent storm. Lots of falling ice on the ridge. I would estimate the ridge from the ski area to the summit to be 2 to 3 feet deep. Sosman Trail monorail is not as stable prior to the Mt. Tecumseh Trail junction. Some nasty deep postholes. I wore snowshoes around the summit loop (the Sosman/southern loop is still not fully melted out) and appreciated the traction and not having to worry about random postholing. Plus, with this much snowpack at elevation, it's risky to be out and about this time of year without flotation of some sort (reference the recent Chocorua rescue).

Nice partly sunny afternoon/evening with temperatures in the 50s. Nice to stay on snow the entire ascent on the ski trails, rather than dealing with awful shoulder season conditions on hiking trail approaches up this way. Seems like the snow's going to hold on at elevation through early May at this pace.
