Comments
Comments: Out and back of the Wildcats from the ski area today - typical varying spring conditions and ever changing weather were the name of the game today. We debated bringing snowshoes and were very glad we did - lots of mushy snow left on the ski trails and they came on less than a half mile from the parking lot, significantly better traction vs. bareboating in several inches of softening snow plus televators were key for the steeper sections. We switched to spikes at the summit of D and kept them on across the ridge and back to the same spot - 2-4" of fresh snow over the past few days made the monorail slightly less of a sufferfest by providing decent traction, but the monorail was still lurking under the surface and you would posthole significantly if you drifted too far to the side. Snowshoes made for a much faster trip back down the ski trails. We saw one person between B and A but didn't see him again on our way back, nor did we see any additional tracks on the ski trail - either he was very stealthy or he came up the ridge trail from Pinkham - otherwise we had the place to ourselves. We had every type of precip but the sun came out on the way down and the wind was minimal all day. Great day with Maddie and Ali and congrats Ali on getting to less than 100 grid peaks left!!
