Comments
Comments: Micro spikes were needed from the start all the way to the hut. Took them off to ascend Monroe which was a bit wet down low with one or two small snowy/slushy sections up higher that took some mindful stepping to get up and down. Otherwise no traction needed to bag this one. Barebooted the rest of the way up to Washington's summit and down the Trinity trail until we got to the snow fields along the cog. After boot skiing a good portion of the way, we decided to put the snowshoes on for best traction. It was very soft and very wet and quite muddy once the snow ran out. An otherwise beautiful day to choose these two peaks. No wind gusts to speak of at the summits. Bare rocks between summits, for the most part, making for easy navigating. Throw in some snow fields to cross to make it interesting, (reminded me of the JMT in July) Great views, although a bit hazy in the distance as the day wore on, blue skies, warm but comfortable sunshine. Ahhhh! Springtime! Doesn't get much better than this. Love livin' in the Whites! Happy trails!
